Game Vision Statement

For this weeks project task we have to write up about our future plans for our game such as genre and gameplay. The game I chose last week was an objective type of game where you drive in a car and try have not damage you car with obstacles in your way. First had to think about what genre I wanted my game to be there's so many different way I could go about making this game. I wasn't sure what specific genre I would describe my game as so I searched up some game genres on google and i found this link Game Genres. After reading through a couple possibilities I narrowed it down to Simulation, Casual Game and Sports game. For simulation I was thinking vehicle simulation but I don't think this is the correct genre for this game because its not from the POV behind the wheel and the game isn't realistic so decided that isn't the genre to choose for this game. For sports game I thought racing could be a possible contender but the game isn't racing its more of getting to point Y to Z with as little damage done to you vehicle as possible. I think Casual game is the best fit here, theirs not much strategy to the game and no long time requirements its more as a game to play in your free time.

For the gameplay the main objective is to reach the end of the map while avoiding obstacles that may get in your way. You will be in control of the car using WASD to move. W will be to accelerate faster and A/D will be to move left and right and S will be used to stop the player. Obstacles that I'm thinking of adding to the game are traffic, stuff falling from buildings, train stops and traffic lights. Traffic lights will make you stop while you let traffic pass. I want the game to be set in a city so stuff falling from building and blocking your path. Traffic may block up one of the lanes. Train stops will have similar features like traffic lights but if you get hit by the train it will be game over. I would like there to be three lanes for you to choose from and have to switch each lane as you approach an obstacles. The reason why you need to keep the car in perfect condition is because you have to deliver the car to the customer. Once you meet the customer at the end they will give you a Grade A,B,C,D,E or F depending on how well you did. The better you do the more coins you will receive to purchase new characters. Some of the customer may also gift you a free character for getting their car to them in great condition. The gameplay of the game is easy to understand and shouldn't take the player a long time before they understand what they have to do.

In conclusion my game is a casual game that can be played by all. I want it to have a simple colour scheme and theme to it. The objective of the game is very simple and I want it to be enjoyable. I'm hoping that adding the ability of using different vehicles doesn't make the game get repetitive and gives the player a reason to come back. Id also like to add some extra game modes as mentioned before to make the game more fun. Such as a game mode to see how long you can go before the car is completely damaged. This gives it a bit more of a completive side to the game for those who like more competitive games and can make it fun to compared scores to your friends and trying to beat each other high scores. I'm excited to see how my games turns out and if I will have to cut any of the features I hope to add because they are too difficult for me to create but I'm hopeful that I will be able to produce a game to the standard that I would like and that the player will also like.

  1. Hey Sam. I really enjoyed reading this blog you got here. I really liked the idea that you got where you wanted to make this game where you have to get from one point to the next with as little damage as possible, never really hear of a game like this before but I am really interested to see how it will turn out. I really liked the idea where you mentioned how you where going to add the obstacles but I wonder if it would be easier to make different levels where there are different obstacles throughout, this would make your life easier of going through and designing a massive level with different obstacles. Just make the difficulty harder on each. Really enjoyed learning about the game as a whole and I seen that you wanted to make the game interesting so players would return, but what if you where to create maybe a leveling up system so the player would have an objective in the game, plenty of tutorials to help you on that, anyways really enjoyed your blog well done ad best of luck!!

  2. Hey Sammy
I really enjoyed reading your blog. I like how you chose a driving. Very like mine in many ways but also very different. One of the ways that it is very like mine is the fact that you implemented the car element into it. Another similarly is the objective of trying not to damage the player. Although it is similar the game will still be very different. The one question I have would be: "Only one vehicle for the player or many vehicles to choose from". I can’t wait to read more of your blogs all the best.
